Shenandoah University Bernard J. Dunn School of Pharmacy has been an innovator of experiential education for Doctor of Pharmacy students for the past 20 years in the Shenandoah Valley and DC metropolitan area. Today, it continues to be on the forefront of developing student pharmacists for the advancing future of pharmacy practice in a multitude of settings.
The Experiential Education program at the Bernard J. Dunn School of Pharmacy allows student pharmacists to apply what they learn in the classroom to real-world pharmacy sites under the supervision of a pharmacist preceptor. Student pharmacists will complete at least 300 hours of Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experiences (IPPE) and 1600 hours of Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences (APPE) prior to graduation.
The proximity of Shenandoah University to premier healthcare facilities allows for student pharmacists to experience a variety of unique practice settings, such as compounding pharmacies, veterinary medicine, drug information, Indian Health, nuclear medicine, research with NIH pharmacists, regulatory affairs at the FDA, and pharmaceutical companies. Being an established pharmacy program, the scope of our affiliates is extensive with over 700 preceptors at some 450 sites. Our BJDSOP alumni are very active participants in our rotation offerings.
